Greetings
As Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust, I am pleased to lend my support to the
LifeStyle Festival 2007 Healthy Encores™ initiative.
The LifeStyle Festival founder, Ms. Lorraine “Lolo” Milliner, lost her father, Luther Milliner, Sr., to type-2
diabetes in February, 2005. This was the impetus for the creation of Healthy Encores™ - the healthcare
awareness initiative to the LifeStyle Style Festival. The LifeStyle Festival Healthy Encores™
“Healthcare Awareness for Healthy Living” will focus on a diabetes awareness campaign targeted to the
five million plus African American and Hispanic Americans living with diabetes in the United States,
including the U.S. Virgin Islands where it is a major cause of death and disability. Whereas diabetes
will remain the primary focus for the 2007 festival, other health disparities will be addressed.
I enthusiastically endorse and support the efforts of Ms. Milliner’s LifeStyle Festival and Healthy
Encores™ 2007, “Healthcare Awareness for a Healthy Living.” Social awareness campaigns such as
Healthy Encores™ are vital to promoting a healthy and a wealthy U.S. Virgin Islands, and can save
lives.
The LifeStyle Festival and its health (diabetes) focus come at the right time to provide both economic
support and personal awareness health support for the entire Virgin Islands community and its
neighbors. In my work as both a physician and the Chairperson of the Congressional Black Caucus
Health Braintrust, I have seen the huge impact that concerned citizens can have on a community.
Therefore, I strongly encourage all to support the LifeStyle Festival and its Healthy Encores™,
“Healthcare Awareness for Healthy Living” initiative.
I look forward to seeing and welcoming you to the United States Virgin Islands - “America’s Caribbean.”
Sincerely,
Donna M. Christensen
Chair
Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust
